18 - AIA Grand Valley, Michigan Chapter.
Rob Peña, Vice President and Director of Consulting with VA will give a talk entitled "ECO-LOGIC Design." The presentation will include a brief history of the firm and its approach to ecological design. Founding partner Sim Van der Ryn calls this approach ECO-LOGIC Design, a process aimed at minimizing environmentally destructive impacts by integrating with natural systems. Principles and practices employed by the Van der Ryn Team will be illustrated through specific project case studies. The talk will serve as a call to urge others to adopt ecological design practices, not only as an approach toward a more sustainable society, but as a means of creating more livable environments.

Sim Van der Ryn will deliver the keynote address at Governor Ryan's Green Building Conference to be held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The one-day conference is intended to raise awareness of the possibilities for incorporating green design criteria and standards into the design of all public buildings and landscapes in the State of Illinois.

16-17 - The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment Top Ten Green Projects Competition. Sim Van der Ryn has been invited to serve as a juror for this competition. The competition solicits built projects from around the world completed by a U.S. registered architect that integrate best practices of sustainable design.
